9 things that happened over the weekend

1. Tony and I went to the Braves game Friday night. We stayed over at the Omni Hotel because we have four kids. The view from our room was FANTASTIC. We could have watched from the balcony, but didn’t because there’s food inside the stadium. And it’s also FANTASTIC. (if you haven’t been to Suntrust Park you should probably get yourself there.)

This.  This was our view.

2.  I found another celebrity.  I know.  I can’t even believe it either.  I feel like I’m the Celebrity of the Month Club.  Who will be June?  We saw on IG that Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin from Stranger Things…see picture below) was also at the game.  And THAT is when The Mission started.  We could tell on the the photo he posted that his seat was very near our seats.  And so YES.  I DID walk over there.  And I DID ask the usher if I could have a quick picture with “Dustin”.  And he did NOT allow that little moment to occur.  The DemoDog slayin’ teen was inches from me and that Mr. I Will Do My Job To The Fullest Usher Man didn’t even care about my mission.  He said the words, “….but when the game is over? Well, then you can ask him.”  Which, I understood as: be patient Grasshopper.  While we watched the game, Tony caught a foul ball.  And by “caught a foul ball” what I mean is, it rolled and bounced down to our seats and he trapped it in the corner.  Then he picked it up.  Tony had the brilliant idea of asking Gaten to sign the ball afterwards.  So, during the bottom of the 9th (that’s almost the end for you non-baseball people), we see him leaving with his mommy and we just happen to leave at the same time.  I looked at him and his mom and said, “hello! Would you sign this? My husband grabbed it during the game and my kids would LOSE THEIR MINDS if you signed it”.  The next thing that happened was the cutest thing I’ve seen from a teenage boy in a long time.  Now.  I want you to say this next part in your best Dustin Lisp.  He said, “But.  I don’t do baseball.  I don’t have anything to DO with baseball.  Mom, this is a baseball and I don’t play baseball.  What should I do, Mom?  What should I sign?” and his mom said, “It’s okay, honey, you can sign it and put “dustin” underneath”.  So that’s what he did.  And it was dadgum adorable.

3.  Gibbo had a soccer game, and couldn’t play because she was hurt last weekend.  Josie sat and lined up her cars while the Rush girls battled it out on the field.

4.  We had an impromptu pizza date with our sweet neighbors and (I think) all of the girls ate the middle out of their pizzas.  Kids are weird.

5.  Emily went to hang out with some friends and more than likely swam in the pool, listened to Spotify and took random selfies.

6.  The Rush Select Soccer Banquet was over the weekend.  Gibbo was awarded the Tenacity Award.  On the way home she asked if she could take over the music in the car.  I think my words were “As long as I’m going to like it”.  She replied “I’m sure you will.  Just don’t judge me.”  Next thing I know I’m listening to Stairway to Heaven and Hey Jude.

7.  I realize again just how lucky we are to have our daughter on this team full of sweet girls.  They are always so kind to each other.  Never catty or petty.  Always giggling and just being sweet, respectful girls.  At one point during the banquet I texted her from my table and asked “are you all being respectful to the speakers?” and she sent back “we’re trying our best to be”.

8.  Nanny (my mom) came up to stay with the girls while Tony and I went to the game to meet famous people and eat food.  As she was leaving Josie stood at the garage door with me and said over and over “bye Nanny! Luh yoooo Nanny!”.

9.  I had a drink at the hotel bar before the game.  Something I rarely do.  I just picked a random this-sounds-like-it-will-do drink from the menu.  It was *something something* sweet tea. Or whatever.  I thought I was doing great because surely this is sweet tea based, right? After I’d finished the bartender asked how I liked it.  “It was yummy!” I said.  Because I’m 13, and use words like ‘yummy’ apparently.  She said “Yeah, well that drink has 3 different types of alcohol in it and all of them are at least 100 proof.”.  Me: “Oh. Well. YAY. For someone who never drinks I’m happy to know I go all in when need-be”.
